5 Lads Fundraising, Christie fundraisers

This month, we’re putting the 5 Lads Fundraising group into our fundraising hall of fame.

The 5 Lads Fundraising group are a team of 5 flatmates who are raising money to support The Christie charity. The friends decided to sign up to  The Christie Challenge to complete 6 fundraising activities in 12 months.

2 of the 5 Lads Fundraising group – Josh Robertson and brother Jack Riley – wanted to show their support after their father received treatment for bowel cancer at The Christie. Josh and Jack’s father sadly passed away in April 2021 and the brothers, along with friends Zack Oakes, Damon Oakes and Laurence Tissington, wanted to give something back to the hospital.

The group began their fundraising journey with a mammoth 500 miles combined run in May. The boys all added up their running miles throughout the month, ending with a final run together on 31 May, raising over £8,000 combined.

Since then, the 5 Lads Fundraising group have held a charity golf day, raising a further £4,000 and now have a charity football match planned for their next stage of The Christie Challenge.

“The team and I have been blown away by the levels of encouragement and support that we’ve received from family and friends over the course of our first 2 charity events. It’s fantastic to see that everyone is so passionate to contribute towards such a great cause and we can’t thank all of our supporters enough.
“It is with these levels of kindness and good will that we can help a charity like The Christie fight the battle of eradicating cancer and help millions of families all over the world.”

The 5 Lads Fundraising group have set a target of a total of £15,000 for their Christie Challenge, and are well on their way to hitting it. We’d like to thank Josh and his team for their incredible fundraising efforts in The Christie Challenge – and to wish them good luck with the rest of their activities!
