Mark Flint, Christie fundraiser

Mark Flint decided he wanted to support The Christie charity after several close family members and friends were treated at the hospital. His uncle died from lung cancer several years ago and Mark wanted to say thank you to The Christie for improving his quality of life.

On New Year’s Eve 2020, Mark decided that for every day of 2021, he would run at least 5km every day to raise money for The Christie charity.

As well as helping to raise funds and awareness in support of The Christie’s work, Mark wanted to take on the fitness challenge to improve his physical and mental health. In fact, Mark has already lost 16kg through his running efforts!

Mark has now taken on nearly 300 daily runs in support of The Christie charity. As well as his 5k runs, Mark has also done several longer challenges. These include the Great North Run in September 2021 and the London Marathon in October 2021.

Now into the last stretch of his year of running, Mark has been posting his daily progress on his Instagram account. Mark said he was first inspired to take on his mammoth running challenge when he saw an advert for a tower run event in support of The Christie charity.

Mark wants to inspire anyone looking to take on a similar challenge as he says anyone can do it if he can. He said people only need a pair of trainers, shorts and a T-shirt to get started, and they don’t need to spend a lot of money on this.

“The challenge of running 5k every day in 2021 is something completely outside of my comfort zone but it’s allowed me to take part in some iconic running events whilst raising money for an iconic institution in The Christie.
“Fundraising in memory of an uncle who we lost to cancer a number of years ago and who received amazing care and support from The Christie was initially my main motivation but recently my father was diagnosed with cancer and so this challenge became even more personal and inspired me even more to do this and to raise money and awareness”.
