Diane Thompson, Christie fundraiser

Diane Thompson has been fundraising for The Christie for ten years now in memory of her son Dean. Dean sadly passed away in 2008 aged just 19 years old from bone cancer.

Diane and her many family and friends have since raised almost £80,000 and hope to raise £100,000 for our Teenage and Young Adult unit to mark the tenth anniversary of Dean’s death.

Diane said: “Dean was treated at The Christie for a year. The treatment he received was amazing and the staff were fantastic. We always knew as a family that we wanted to give something back even after Dean sadly passed away.

“We have done so many different challenges in Dean’s name, starting with a charity evening which his sister organised only three weeks after he died.”

Fundraising activities have ranged from royal wedding parties, a coast to coast bike ride, to a climb to the top of Kilimanjaro. They now aim to carry on thinking of new ideas and challenges to raise as much money as possible and keep Dean’s memory alive.
