Sally Lindsay and Dave Spikey co-host for The Christie

Press release posted 07 December 2015

Former Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay and Phoenix Nights actor and co-writer Dave Spikey are promising to make the 2016 Christie Charity Ball the most exciting yet as they co-host this spectacular evening.

Long-time friends and stars of Phoenix Nights, Sally and Dave, have generously donated their time to help The Christie raise vital funds for cancer patients and make sure guests have a fabulous night.

Stockport born actress Sally, and Bolton born comedian and actor Dave, have both been regular supporters of The Christie over the years.

The ball will be held at the stunning Manchester Cathedral on 5th March 2016.

Last year's Charity Ball was hosted by BBC Breakfast's Bill Turnbull and had performances from Jocelyn Brown and Collabro. The event raised £150,000 for proton beam therapy research.

This year's ball will feature hosts Dave Spikey and Sally Lindsay, an auction with money-can't buy-prizes, and spectacular entertainment from top name acts with a host of star studded Christie charity supporters in the audience.

Mount Pleasant star Sally Lindsay said: "I was thrilled and honoured to be asked to host The Christie's charity ball. Everyone in Manchester is aware of The Christie and the fabulous work they do."

Chorley based Dave Spikey continued: "Sally and I have supported The Christie for a long time. The work they do there is absolutely invaluable. I'm so excited to be able to help them as they continue to try and find new, improved treatments for cancer patients."

Louise Hadley, Director of Fundraising at The Christie charity, said: "The Christie Charity Ball is a fabulous night of entertainment and fundraising. We can't thank Sally and Dave enough for generously volunteering to host the ball this year. We know they will be a hilarious double act and keep our guests entertained throughout the night."

The Christie charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust through its fundraising activities, and delivers projects, equipment and improvements that are over and above what the NHS funds. The charity has over 30,000 supporters who helped raise £13.3m last year.
