Press release posted 30 November 2018

Beaver Road Primary School in Didsbury is proud to be supporting The Christie at this special event. It is the seventh year that our Choir has been invited to perform for the Christmas Concert. This year we have brought our Year 4 and 5 Choir members to the Concert.  Singing is a key part of our School’s identity. Our School Choirs are expanding each year! We have 124 members in Years 4 to 6, and 54 members in Year 3. The event is to raise money for the specialist cancer centre The Christie.

The Head Teacher, Head of School and Deputy all really appreciate the work that The Christie does, and are thrilled to be supporting the charity again.

For our Head Teacher, the Christmas Concert marks the start of Christmas:

‘The Christie Concert is for me, when Christmas really starts. It’s an honour and privilege for our Beaver Road children and staff to be invited to take part. Long may it continue’

Beaver Road has recently expanded, and we now have two sites in Didsbury. Being so close to The Christie means that we have parents who work there, and we have members of staff, friends and families who have experienced the wonderful work that The Christie does. One member of staff was treated at The Christie recently:

The teacher who is a surviving cancer patient said

‘Cancer is the most terrifying word you can hear your doctor say to you, but The Christie does its best to remove the terror and reassure you throughout your cancer journey. Every aspect of your needs as a person is considered. My personal favourite was the Art Therapy which was, and still is, my escape to place.’

Another member of staff is extremely grateful for the support that her family were given:

‘The Christie became a very important part of my life during the 3 years that my Mum was treated there for ovarian cancer. I never failed to be touched and amazed by the care and support my Mum received from all the staff every time we visited. I didn’t expect a cancer hospital to have such a warm & positive atmosphere but the Christie really does.’

Beaver Road staff and pupils would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a happy and healthy 2019.

We’ll all be affected by cancer at some stage in our lives, so it’s vital we all get on board and raise money for a place that is fighting to make the disease a thing of the past.

Claire Ferguson, Senior Community Manager from the Christie charity said; “The Christie Christmas Concert is the highlight of our year, we’re very excited that Beaver Rd Primary School are involved again as they are a local school and can bring some magic to our concert.’
