Employees at Marks and Spencer in Macclesfield have voted for The Christie to be their charity of the year for 2019-20. The money they raise will go towards the appeal for The Christie at Macclesfield.
The proposed new cancer centre, delivering Christie care closer to home for people in Macclesfield and the surrounding area, was a popular choice for customers and staff of the well know high street store.
As part of Marks and Spencer’s commitment to its local communities, each store team is asked to select one local charity each year to support, through local fundraising activities.
Store ops section coordinator at Marks and Spencer in Macclesfield, Brendan Wilkinson, said: “Our staff felt that The Christie at Macclesfield project was one that would have a big impact on our customers, staff, their families, friends and the wider community.
“We have chosen to support The Christie at Macclesfield next year as it is a cause very close to everyone’s heart. Some of us have experienced the pain that cancer brings, not just to the individual, but also to their family and friends. We are looking forward to raising as much money as we can with the support of staff and customers throughout next year.”
Steph Bryant, corporate fundraising coordinator at The Christie added: “We are thrilled that Brendan and his team have chosen us as their charity of the year. This is the first time they have supported our vital life changing and potentially lifesaving work at The Christie.
“The store team in Macclesfield has already had some fantastic fundraising ideas including a quiz night, a 5-a-side football tournament, skydive and taking part in the Manchester 100 in-store using a static bike and a relay team of staff throughout the day. We are really looking forward to working with them to make a huge success of this opportunity.”
