Door to door and Telephone Fundraising

Here at The Christie Charity we are very grateful for the support we receive and take our responsibilities to our supporters and fundraisers very seriously.

The Christie Charity DOES NOT undertake door-to-door or telephone fundraising of any kind.

If you are approached either in your home or on the telephone by someone purporting to be collecting from, or on behalf of The Christie Charity, tell the collector you’ll donate directly to the charity yourself. Please also report the incident to action fraud (www.actionfraud.police.uk), as well as your local police and The Christie Charity directly so that we can warn our supporters and ensure they do not fall victim to this deception.

Venue Fundraising

The Christie Charity undertakes venue fundraising at private sites such as supermarkets, malls and events, which is a very effective method of fundraising. These could include activities like bucket collections, sign ups to our weekly lottery or direct debit sign–ups.  It allows us to plan our services based on a reliable source of income which is vital for us to be able to be there for our patients and their families. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers.

Why do we use this as a method of fundraising?

Venue fundraising is a successful and cost effective way to generate income for The Christie, in which fundraisers speak to potential new supporters about the charity and ask them if they would like to give a loose change donation, sign up to our weekly lottery or set up a monthly Direct Debit.

Direct Debits in particular are a cost-effective way to donate, as it allows The Christie to plan ahead for the future and helps to keep our administrative costs to a minimum.

How do I know that the person at The Christie stand is legitimate?

The fundraisers wear a Christie identification badge, including the fundraiser’s name, photo and ID number.

If you are unsure about whether a fundraiser is legitimate, please contact our Supporter Services team on 0161 446 3988 Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm or email the-christie.appeals@nhs.net.

Is the fundraiser being paid?

We currently only use vetted volunteers or our own staff to fundraiser at venues for us.
