Educational Programme for Fellows

The Christie International Fellowship Programme offers a consolidated educational programme via the School of Oncology and MCRC available to all Fellows within the Trust. In addition to the School of Oncology Programme, there will also be specialty specific training open to you throughout your Fellowship.

Tuesday Lunchtime Teaching – a consultant led weekly teaching session aimed at FY2-CMT2 grade junior doctors. Fellows are welcome to attend this session and the weekly topics can be found via EduKit (Medical Education app available via the app store).

Library Training Sessions – The Christie Library and Knowledge Service offers a wide range of courses, and learning opportunities. All these sessions are open for staff and students based at the Christie. To book onto a particular session please email the library letting us know which sessions you are interested in. Grand Rounds – The Christie hold a weekly Grand Round focusing on topics throughout the Year. All staff are welcome to attend these sessions, a list of topics can be found here. Staff are also welcome to watch previous Grand Rounds and they can be found here.

Schwartz Rounds – Rounds provide a structured monthly one- hour forum for all team members from all disciplines to discuss difficult emotional and social issues that arise in caring for patients.
Where: Education Centre Auditorium
When: Dates / times vary but refreshments are served 30 min before the round.

The Christie School of Oncology Events – The Christie School of Oncology is a world class teaching centre, bringing together professional and pre-registration education, plus continuing professional development activities into one structure. Surgery Teaching – the surgical department deliver a series of teaching sessions every week. All Fellows are welcome to attend this teaching; topics are varied and may include things such as enhanced recovery, acute surgical oncology and endometrial cancer.

Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) Seminars and Director’s Lectures – The Christie works closely with the MCRC and Fellows are welcome to attend educational events. Details of these open events can be found here.

Quality Improvement and Audit – the Christie has an outstanding reputation for their involvement in Quality Improvement and Audit. There are recommended e-learning packages available to you about Transforming Clinical Audit into Quality Improvement and Quality improvement: how to make services work better for you and your patients. Service Transformation – the Transformation Team deliver a range of courses currently available for all staff. The aim of the courses is to provide staff with the skills to implement and embed changes in their own areas.
