Adaptive Radiotherapy

During a course of radiotherapy treatment a tumour may shrinks or change shape. Adaptive radiotherapy means changing the radiotherapy plan after treatment has started. Adaptive radiotherapy takes into account changes in the shape of the tumour or changes in your body shape, for example weight loss. The team creates a new treatment plan and you may need to have some of your initial CT scans or treatment imaging repeated.

The Christie is involved in clinical trials and is currently starting to deliver adaptive radiotherapy alongside our existing treatments e.g. VMAT and IGRT.
