In Vivo Pseudomyxoma Peritoneii Cells

We worked with scientists in the CRUK-MI and became the first research team in the world to develop and validate two cells for the laboratory study of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). We used laser capture micro-dissection to extract DNA from PMP cells. It means that, for the first time, we can test new drugs against this cancer and identify the genetic ‘drivers’ that underpin its progression.

Oncological outcomes after clinical Complete Response in patients with rectal cancer (The OnCoRe Project)

We collaborated with several cancer centres and hospitals to pioneer a ‘watch and wait’ management policy for patients with rectal cancer who’ve had a complete response to chemo-radiotherapy and don’t need radical surgery. We worked with The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Manchester to perform robust statistical analyses to demonstrate that this treatment is safe.
