I was honoured to be elected a public governor of The Christie to represent the members of Trafford. As a governor I bring with me a strong combination of business skills, experience and integrity.

I am passionate about putting the patients' interest first and in enhancing the wonderful work of The Christie towards the understanding and treatment of cancer. I was Managing Director of the Supplies and Services division of Great Universal Stores (GUS plc), prior to retirement in 2001, after 34 years with the company.

My daughter, Harriet, was a Christie patient. After she died in 1997, The Harriet Bowman Foundation was set up. This has raised significant funds for The Christie to enable research into rare head and neck cancers, and continues to do so.

Since becoming a Governor, I now sit on the Development and Sustainability Committee as Deputy Chair.
