Dr O’Connor is principal investigator on several pre-clinical and clinical cancer MRI studies; University of Manchester MBBS interviewer; member of the Breast Cancer Campaign Gap Analysis group; reviewer for over 20 leading peer reviewed science journals; grant reviewer for Cancer Research UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Medical Research Council and several international bodies.

Professional biography

Dr O'Connor read Medicine at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge (1992-1995), and at the Royal Free Hospital, London (1995-1998), graduating with an MA in History and Philosophy of Science and with the MB, BS degrees. His subsequent surgical training in Manchester and Leeds led to Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) before he joined the Manchester Radiology Training Scheme in September 2004.

He joined the Imaging Sciences department at the University of Manchester in 2005, initially studying for his Cancer Research UK-sponsored PhD. His post-doctoral research was as a National Institute for Health Research and Wellcome Trust-funded Clinical Lecturer in Radiology, in 2010. In January 2012 he was appointed Senior Lecturer with an Honorary Consultant Radiologist post at The Christie and in January 2013 he began a four-year Fellowship with his Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Award.
