Roles/responsibilities at The Christie:
Dr Angela Lamarca is one of the Consultants in Medical Oncology specialising in Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and Neuroendocrine (NET) malignancies. Dr Lamarca’s outpatient clinics include a weekly HPB research clinic, a chemotherapy/review HPB clinic and a dedicated neuroendocrine clinic which also includes clinical trials. She attends multidisciplinary team meetings (MDT) including HPB (held at Central Manchester Foundation Trust) and NET MDTs.
In addition to her clinical practice, she is also a member of the Quality Improvement and Clinical Audit (QICA) Committee and The Christie Medical Appraiser group. Dr Lamarca is a GMC-registered Clinical Supervisor.

Dr Angela Lamarca is involved in ESMO (European Society of Medical Oncology) activities, being a member of the Award and Fellowship Committee, the ESMO Press and Media Affairs Committee and Faculty Member of the Neuroendocrine, Endocrine Neoplasms and CUP Scientific Committee. She is also part of international collaborative groups focused on gastrointestinal malignancies such as the International Biliary Tract Cancer Collaborators (IBTCC), the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma (ENS-CCA) and the EORTC Gastrointestinal Cancer Group (EORTC-GITCG; hepato-biliary Task Force).
Dr Angela Lamarca is a Medical Oncologist (MD, PhD, MSc), specialising in gastrointestinal malignancies (HPB and NETs). She finished her training in Medical Oncology and her PhD in Madrid (Spain) and moved to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester, United Kingdom) in 2013 in a research fellow position.
Dr Lamarca was successful at securing funding for her fellowship period which included competitive grants from organisations such as the ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) Translational Fellowship Programme, Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and The Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) Fellowship Grant Programme; during this period she specialised in the management of HBP/NET malignancies. She completed a 4-year (2013-2017) fellowship programme at The Christie in May 2017, when she was appointed as a Locum Consultant in Medical Oncology at The Christie.
She also completed a Master’s Degree in Molecular Biology of Cancer and a second Master’s Degree in Biostatistics and was awarded an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Conquer Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award in 2017. In July 2018, she was appointed as a Consultant in Medical Oncology at The Christie where she continues her Clinical and Translational Research career in HPB and NETs. Her aim is to achieve a better understanding of pancreatic, biliary tract cancer and NET malignancies and to identify new treatment strategies for improving patients’ outcome.
Dr Lamarca’s research interest is focused on the development of Clinical and Translational Research in Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and Neuroendocrine (NET) tumours. She has been involved in the development of multiple research projects including clinical trials.
Dr Angela Lamarca is involved in education in the area of Oncology and HPB/NET malignancies and has been invited locally, nationally and internationally to give lectures related to her area of expertise.
