Strike action between Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October 2023

Consultants and junior doctors at The Christie will both strike between 7am on Monday 2 October to 7am on Thursday 5 October 2023. Both consultants and junior doctors will still provide emergency care during their strikes.

We are proactively contacting patients with appointments that may be affected by this strike. If you have an appointment at the Trust on any of these dates, please continue to come to The Christie and our other centres as planned unless we contact you to tell you otherwise. There may be longer waits than usual in clinics during this time.

Collaboration in Cancer: an Interprofessional Student Symposium in Oncology

This annual one-day symposium is structured around real patients with cancer, highlighting their overall journey and their interactions with healthcare professionals. The topic for this year’s conference is head and neck cancer. The session will draw from the expertise of various specialists in the multidisciplinary team, facilitating open and interactive discussions regarding their roles.

  • Hear from world-leading expert oncologists, nurse clinicians radiotherapy practitioners, surgical specialists and members of the wider multidisciplinary team surrounding head and neck cancer care
  • Engage in interactive discussions with speakers, including opportunities for question and answer sessions
  • Gain an insight into real patients' experiences and their journeys with cancer

Aimed at all students from any healthcare specialty, with an interest in cancer.

Submissions are welcome on the subject of oncology. Attendees are encouraged to submit an abstract based on a cancer-related project that may be of interest to other delegates.

Abstracts should be saved as a Word document with your full name and event as the name of the document e.g. ‘John Smith Collab in Cancer Abstract’ and emailed to the-christie.educationevents@nhs.net by 5pm on Friday 19 May 2023 with the cover submission form attached.

  • All abstract submissions must pre-register to attend the symposium and indicate on the application form that they are interested in submitting an abstract.
  • Please refer to the below submission form template when completing your abstract (250 words max).
  • Upon submission, all successful abstracts will be contacted and asked to submit an A4 PDF poster. You may also be selected for a brief oral presentation, if you would not be happy to give an oral presentation please highlight this on the submission form.
  • Certificates will be awarded to the top 3 posters and the winners will be announced live at the symposium. 

Due to the virtual nature of the event, posters must be saved in PDF format and submitted electronically. They will form part of an “e-gallery” for delegates to access. All posters must clearly display the applicants’ full name and a relevant contact email address to facilitate any communication after the event.
