Radiotherapy
The Radiotherapy group provides scientific,
technical, and training support to the Radiotherapy departments at
the Christie FT and the Royal Preston FT. At present additional,
networked centres, are being established at other hospitals within
the Manchester area (Network Centres)
Service
This covers the following areas of expertise:
- dosimetry
- treatment planning
- brachytherapy
- equipment maintenance
Research and development
Both groups undertake research projects which include
- Intensity Modulated RT (IMRT) - Christie and Preston
- Image Guided RT (IGRT) - Christie
- Intensity Modulated Arc Therapy (IMAT) - Christie
- Cone Beam imaging - Christie
- The utilisation of portal imaging systems for accelerator QA -
Christie
- Pre and Post treatment verification - Preston

Radiotherapy group at the Christie there is an additional research
team called Developing Technologies whose work
can be found here
Teaching and training
- Lecturing on Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses at
Manchester University
- The section is an IPEM approved training centre for part 1
clinical scientists and technologists in Radiotherapy.
- Training of Clinical Engineers in Radiotherapy
- Providing specialist training. Current courses being offered are here
Professional matters
Staff actively participate in a range of professional matters
ranging from refereeing scientific papers to providing advice to
national and international bodies.
