Christie Medical Physics and Engineering
(CMPE) provides medical physics and engineering support to a
wide range of NHS and other institutions within the Cheshire,
Greater Manchester and Lancashire area

The department currently holds external research grants for
image guided radiotherapy and breast image analysis. We
operate research programmes in PET and targeted radionuclide
therapy. The majority of our research is carried out with clinical,
academic, and commercial partners both within the UK and abroad.

Many staff members actively participate in a range of
professional matters ranging from refereeing scientific papers to
providing advice to national and international bodies.
Special features
- The department assists in all aspects of equipment
specification, procurement, installation, acceptance testing,
ongoing maintenance, incident investigation and QA.
- We provide medical equipment management services in areas such
as radiotherapy and medical electronics -the majority within BS EN
ISO 9001:2000 quality systems.
- We are a recognised radiation protection advisor and can
provide all levels of advice in this field.
- Our medical physics department is an IPEM approved training
centre for part 1 clinical scientists and technologists in some
areas of medical physics. We have very close teaching links
with several local universities to provide training for other
health professionals.
- We also run an extensive range of radiation protection courses
for health professionals.
