Being a Member

We are here to serve the public, so we care about what you think. As a member you have a say in our future and can make a vital contribution to how our cancer services are provided and developed.

Member areas

We currently have more than 20,000 public members. To best represent the population we serve, the region is divided into 14 constituency areas. Members in each area vote for their Governor who represents them on our Council of Governors. Our staff and partner organisations are also represented on this Council.

Be involved as much or as little as you choose.

We share information with members four times a year, however we understand that many people would like to be more involved.

You could:

  • Simply be kept informed by our quarterly newsletters, and nothing else.
  • Vote for your Governor to serve on our Council of Governors.
  • Make your views heard via your Governor.
  • Attend the annual members' meeting.
  • Attend social members' events and tours.
  • Make a comment or suggestion direct to us.
  • Sit on a project group or committee, giving us your views and expertise.
  • Attend our supporters' seminars.
  • Answer a questionnaire, for example about our plans or services.
  • Volunteer at The Christie.
  • Fundraise for The Christie Charity.
  • Stand for election and become a Governor, representing the views of your area.

If you are over 16 years old, live in England or Wales and have an interest in The Christie, you can become a member. Membership is free and you do not have to pay or donate any money unless you want to. You can also get involved as much or as little as you'd like.

As a member you can:

  • Give your views on how services are run
  • Share your ideas as a patient or carer
  • Be first to know about our latest developments
  • Receive invitations to our many events
  • Vote for a Governor and help shape our future
  • Join a committee
  • The list goes on

Why we need members?

Being a member is the best way of supporting us. As a Foundation Trust we have the freedom to develop our services. In return, we are accountable for the communities we serve. An essential part of this is listening and responding to the opinions of our members, patients and local community.
