Hope for Families

“Cancer almost took me away from my children, my family. But I’m still here thanks to The Christie and you.” Becky Maskill

Without The Christie and without people like you, I honestly don’t think I’d be here today.

At one point my future looked limited. I was out of options with my cancer treatment. I had to face the fact that nothing else could be done. But then The Christie gave me hope. My oncologist told me about a pioneering surgery they could do, called cytoreductive surgery.

The Christie is only one of two places in the country that does this specialist procedure. A few years ago, operations like this weren’t possible and I wouldn’t be here to write this.

When I opened my eyes and was told my surgery had been a success, I was so relieved. It was like life could start again. We could make plans. We could have a future.

We’re still making memories together as a family – and we’re also raising money for The Christie as a family.

We’re all behind The Christie because they were behind us when it mattered. I know that with your support and mine, they can get behind even more families this year.

“The Christie offered me a clinical trial. Without that trial, I probably wouldn’t be here.”Craig Reid

When I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma, I went into a state of shock. I was completely overwhelmed. But the worst thing for me, without a shadow of a doubt, was telling my family.

Having to make them so upset about something I couldn’t control was horrible. But The Christie gave me hope. As well as giving me chemotherapy, they got me onto a clinical trial of a drug called Ibrutinib. And I’m so thankful that they did.

I’ve now been given the all-clear and that was the biggest relief. Without that trial, without The Christie, I probably wouldn’t be here today with my wife, my daughter and another baby on the way. So what I really want to say to everyone reading this, is that when it comes to parting with a few pounds, or whatever you can afford, it’s a small price to pay to say that you’ve helped someone’s dad, mum, brother or sister to beat cancer.

I’m so proud of The Christie and I hope you are too.
