The Christie School of Oncology is a unique facility which offers education and training in all aspects of cancer research, treatment and care, not only within The Christie, but also across our cancer network and throughout the UK.
As the only one of its kind in the UK, the School of Oncology provides a teaching environment across all professions - medicine, nursing, clinical sciences, and the allied health professions undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications.
Thanks to our wonderful donors, we were able to carry out ambitious plans to expand our educational activities to deliver higher quality education at a local, national and international level. We:
- increased the number of training rooms from two to five
- extended the foyer/network area around the existing auditorium to create a display area
- created a dedicated clinical skills training room for clinical exams
- provided a common room for students and accommodation for the School of Oncology team.
These changes have allowed us to double the number of medical students from 700 to 1,400 a year, develop and lead new modules in oncology education regionally and nationally, and develop national education programmes on acute oncology, survivorship and clinical research.
