Christie patient Caroline Smith has signed up for this
year's Walk of Hope to say thank you to the experts at the
specialist cancer centre in Manchester who saved her
life.
Caroline, 39, from Macclesfield was diagnosed
with ovarian cancer in September 2010 and began her chemotherapy
treatment at The Christie soon after.
Now she taking part in The Christie charity's annual Walk
of Hope, with her mum, Susan Hulley, almost two years to the day
she was diagnosed.
The Walk of Hope is a 10km evening stroll through the
grounds of Tatton Park on Saturday 22nd September.
The event sees family and friends uniting to honour the courage of
loved ones battling cancer and remember those who have sadly passed
away. It is also a chance to say thank you for the care and
treatment received, to celebrate and to raise vital funds for The
Christie.
Caroline said; "The care I received at The Christie was
absolutely fantastic. You can never be prepared for the moment you
are told you have cancer, but from my first appointment I felt
really cared for.
"The nurses are angels and do everything they can for you,
which is why I wanted to raise money."
Caroline has been married for 15 years and works in the
communications department at United Utilities in
Warrington.
She added: "I wanted to do something big fundraising wise
as I'm reaching 40 next year and I wanted to mark this
milestone.
"My mum came with me for every treatment and I thought
this would be a lovely walk we could do together. This was my way
of saying thank you for saving my life, raising vital funds and
enjoying a day out with my family."
Sporting events officer at The Christie charity, Emma
Tilley, said; "Huge thanks to Caroline for taking part in this
year's Walk of Hope. She is such as inspiration, and, as she says,
it's an event where the whole family can get involved.
"We hope as many people as possible will sign up and join
us on the day. Our Walk of Hope is always a moving occasion, but
also a day full of love and support.
"All money raised at this event will go towards supporting
cancer patients like Caroline and really does make a
difference."
