Train driver Fred Sullivan begins his 985-mile journey
from Lands End to John O'Groats today - Monday 10th
September - raising funds for the teenage cancer unit at The
Christie, a specialist cancer centre in Manchester.
His son Aaron Sullivan was treated at the unit for
Hodgkin's Lymphoma but sadly died last month aged 20.
Fred will be driving a 1955 'Old Grey Fergie' made by
Massey Ferguson, which has a top speed of just 15mph. A second Old
Grey Fergie will be driven alongside by different people who have
paid for a place on the trip. Both tractors will be accompanied by
a support team along the length of the route.
Fred, from Glossop, will stop off at The Christie next
Monday 17th September before continuing through
Manchester and Glossop.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has even
recorded a special video message wishing Fred luck with the
trip.
