During the week September 17th to 21st 2012, solicitors are giving up their time and expertise to provide a free standard will writing and updating service in return for a donation to the charity, which raises funds for The Christie, a specialist cancer centre. Normally a will can cost anything from £70 to £150.

In 2011 just over £17, 500 was raised in donations from 283 people taking part. Now in its third year, and with more solicitors on board, it is hoped even more money will be raised from the 2012 initiative to help cancer patients.

Legacy officer at The Christie charity, John Bremend: said: "The Christie charity's Make a Will Week really has gone from strength to strength and we hope this year to break the £20,000 barrier.

"Making a will is such an important thing to do and Will Week enables our supporters to protect their loved ones, save some money and at the same time donate valuable funds to help our research and support patient care. Don't put it off until tomorrow, call one of our solicitors today and make your appointment for September."

The week highlights the importance of making or updating a will to safeguard and provide for loved ones - especially if your circumstances have changed in recent years. Your current will may not consider grandchildren, changes in marital status or property ownership.

Legacies left to The Christie charity account for over a third of its charitable income each year. Funds raised for the charity help to fund research, education, treatment and extra support services for cancer patients.

Participating solicitor, Amanda Reed of Dwyers from Ashton-Under-Lyne, added: "We're thrilled to be part of this initiative with The Christie charity to offer a free will service to local people. Making a will provides great peace of mind to know your loved ones will be protected after your death and it's also fantastic opportunity to support a truly great cause."
