Stars from the nation's biggest soaps gathered in Manchester this week at a charity event held to raise money for leading cancer centre The Christie.

Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor and former Street star Scott Wright, Hollyoaks actresses Carley Stenson, Claire Cooper and Leah Hackett, and Shameless's Tina Malone attended a Sex and the City style fundraising reception at Harvey Nichols followed by a special screening of the film Sex and the City 2. Craig Phillips from the first Big Brother even made an appearance.

The event also celebrated the return of four leading businesswomen from completing a 12,000ft drop skydive to raise further funds for The Christie's new early clinical trials unit, which will be the largest in the world.

The Christie's chief executive Caroline Shaw completed the challenge with Sharon Fraser, Partner and Head of Regions audit at Deloitte, Elaine Birchall, chief executive of PZ Cussons and Jo McCarthy, head of finance at Sabre Europe. So far over £100,000 has been raised via their justgiving site www.justgiving.co.uk/fearlessfoursome.

The Christie in Manchester is one of the leading cancer centres in Europe treating about 40,000 patients every year and is an international leader in research.
