Hollyoaks actresses Jennifer Metcalfe, Claire Cooper and Leah Hackett, better known as the McQueen sisters, will be taking part in this year's Walk of Hope for The Christie.

Taking place on Saturday 11th September, the annual event is a 10k walk through Cheshire's Tatton Park to raise money for the leading cancer centre based in south Manchester.

The three already support The Christie through their celebrity dress hire shop, The Closet in Liverpool. The store stocks dresses worn by stars such as Cheryl Cole, Tess Daly and Michelle Keegan and every time a dress is hired out, a donation is made to The Christie.

Leah Hackett, who played the role of Tina McQueen in Hollyoaks for over two years said; "We've been supporting The Christie for quite some time now and feel extremely passionate about doing our bit. The Christie provides outstanding care and support to people affected by cancer, so we hope to help raise as much money as possible by taking part in the Walk of Hope."

The walk will see friends and family gather in support of loved ones currently battling cancer, in celebration of those who have beaten the disease and in memory of those who have sadly lost the fight.

Midway through the walk there is a moment for reflection, as loved ones get to throw a pebble emblazoned with the name of the person they are taking part in honour of into the mere at Tatton. The event then culminates with a moving and uplifting candlelit vigil held by The Christie's chaplain.

Jennifer Metcalfe, aka Mercedes McQueen in the soap, said; "We hope as many people as possible will sign up and join us next month in this walk. It will be an emotional day - a day of love, hope and support - but for such a great cause that's so important to all of us."

Sporting events officer at the Christie charity, Marco Giannini, said; "Everyone sadly knows someone who has been affected by cancer and this event provides the perfect opportunity for people to come together and support each other, under one common cause.

"Unlike many of our other events like bike rides and marathons, this is a walk where you don't need to be super fit and the whole family can get involved. It's always such a stunning, moving, and inspirational event and money raised will make such a huge difference.
