Levenshulme cancer patient signs up for Bupa Great Manchester Run for The Christie
Press Release Posted 12 January 2010
Victoria Wren.
A cancer patient from Levenshulme will join the tens of
thousands of other runners in this year's Great Manchester Run on
Sunday 16th May, despite the fact she is still undergoing treatment
for the disease.
Victoria Wren, 40, was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2007
and is a patient at The Christie in Withington where she has also
worked as an administrator for over 12 years.
She said; "I've had two lots of surgery, radiotherapy, and
chemotherapy and I'm still having treatment at the moment.
"When I found out I had cancer, the fact that I work at The
Christie really helped. I knew what level of care I would get and
how my colleagues would go above and beyond to look after me.
"I've always been a 'glass half full' kind of person and despite
the fact there's still a way to go yet, I'm feeling positive about
the future.
"Being fit and healthy when you're battling cancer is really
important so I already try to eat healthily and do as much exercise
as I can, but signing up to do this run is a great motivator. I'll
be running with pride that day although I am a bit nervous about it
too!"
Thousands of participants have run for The Christie since the
Great Manchester Run was launched in 2003, but this is the first
time it has been selected as the main local charity.
Victoria added; "I've seen first hand how much donations and
fundraising can help our organisation and fellow patients. Everyone
who signs up to run this race for The Christie will be helping make
a huge difference."
Head of sporting events at the Christie charity, Jenny Haskey,
said; "Registration for the run is now open, but places do go
quickly so do act now to avoid disappointment. Visit
www.greatrun.org and we'd be delighted if, like Victoria, you
choose The Christie as your chosen charity. All the money raised
will help cancer patients now and in the future."
