Press Release Posted 09 September 2010
Christie's Week 2010
Fundraisers across the North West are gearing up
for the Christie charity's annual 'Christie's Week' next month
which is now in its second year.
The week this year runs from the 9th - 16th October and over 80
people have signed up to organise an event and raise money for The
Christie, one of Europe's leading cancer centres.
Last year saw everything from sponsored walks and cake sales to
golf days and salsa nights held in aid of The Christie and over
£80,000 was raised to help cancer patients
Celebrities backing the week and urging people to get involved
are boxer Amir Khan, actress Angela Griffin and comedian Dave
Spikey.
Angela Griffin said; "Last year, the first ever Christie's Week
raised thousands of pounds. This is why I am encouraging everyone
to get behind this year's fundraising week.
"Please get involved and support this very special week by
organising an event in your community to help fund the important
and life-saving work done every day at The Christie. Let's make
Christie's Week 2010 even bigger and better."
The week will end with mass street collections across the North
West including at Manchester United's ground, Manchester City
centre, Manchester Airport, Manchester train stations and in 25
towns throughout The Christie's catchment area.
Community fundraising officer at the Christie charity, Toni
Kennedy, said; "We'd love everyone in the North West to spare a
little of their time and organise a Christie's Week event next
month to raise money for The Christie. It doesn't matter how
big or small your event is, the choice is yours, and every penny
raised will make a difference.
"Money raised will help pay for vital equipment, new buildings
and research programmes - things that are crutial to make advances
in treating cancer. Every advance made buys someone more time and
we can only do this with everyone's support.
"To get involved and register for your free fundraising pack as
well as items such as posters, stickers and invites visit www.christiesweek.org
