A group of dedicated Christie supporters in Prestwich have
managed to hit the £250,000 mark after years of tireless
fundraising.
The Tender Loving Care Ladies Committee (TLC) began its charity
campaign back in 1997 and over the years has helped fund vital
pieces of equipment and ground-breaking cancer research at The
Christie.
The all-female group is now fundraising for The Christie's new
£35 million patient treatment centre which will house the largest
early clinical trials unit in the world, a first-class chemotherapy
unit and a new private patients facility to increase income for NHS
services.
When the centre opens, Christie experts will be able to double
the number of clinical trial treatments it can offer to patients.
This means that around 2,400 patients a year will be offered
clinical trial treatments, which are research studies to find
better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat cancer.
Chair of TLC, Lisa Silvera, said; "I'm extremely proud of
everyone in our group for continually giving 100% in absolutely
everything we do to raise cash."
Community fundraising officer at the Christie charity, Jacky
Plant, said; "£250,000 is a phenomenal amount of money and thank
you just doesn't seem a big enough word.
"The money they've raised will continue to make a world of
difference to the lives of cancer patients, today and in the
future.
"They've never faltered, they've never let anything get in their
way in their bid to raise money, they've never run out of ideas -
in fact they could write a book about all the events and activities
they've organised. Huge thanks girls."
