Partner of late Tony Wilson calls on sporting enthusiasts to run Pennine Lancashire 10k
Press Release Posted 05 February 2010
Yvette Livesey
Yvette Livesey, former Miss England and partner to the late 'Mr
Manchester' Tony Wilson, is urging as many as people as possible to
sign up for the newly launched 'Run For All' Jane Tomlinson's
Pennine Lancashire 10K event for The Christie where the music mogul
died after battling kidney cancer.
The event will be held on Sunday 11th July in Blackburn starting
and finishing from the 480-acre Witton Park, taking in the
highlights of the historic town centre.
There will be places for 5,000 entrants of all abilities from
the age of 15 and the run will be based on the same principles as
all 'Run For All' events - a not for profit, community event which
encourages people of all abilities to take part and raise money for
whatever cause is important to them.
It follows in the footsteps of the successful Leeds and York 10K
events, set up by the late inspirational fundraiser and breast
cancer patient Jane Tomlinson.
Money raised from those who sign up to run for The Christie will
help pay for its experts to carry out ground-breaking research with
an aim of saving more lives, as well as new building developments,
medical equipment and extra patient services that fall outside the
remit of NHS funding.
The Jane Tomlinson's Pennine Lancashire 10k is supported by
Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, which brought the charity run to
Pennine Lancashire through its employment of Tony Wilson and Yvette
Livesey.
Regenerate Pennine Lancashire is a new economic development
company charged with improving the image of Pennine Lancashire and
the pair were asked to come up with a radical programme of social
and cultural projects to boost the area's image and benefit the
economy.
Yvette, who was Tony Wilson's partner for 17 years, said; "There
are so many deserving causes that runners can support but one
especially close to my heart is dedicated to my late partner Tony
Wilson.
"Tony was treated at The Christie after developing kidney cancer
and I will be eternally grateful for the outstanding care he
received from the hospital's dedicated team of staff.
"All monies raised for the hospital will go towards the
pioneering work carried out by Professor Robert Hawkins who is
carrying out research into kidney cancer and into innovative
methods of treatment.
"I encourage as many people as possible to sign up to join
'Tony's team' for the race and run in memory of a musical legend
whilst raising money for a genuinely worthwhile cause."
This new event also has the support of former Olympic athlete
Steve Cram MBE. He said; "I was lucky enough to call Jane a friend
and like many was touched by her determination and drive to make a
difference to many millions of people's lives, despite battling
with her own cruel illness.
"I hope the cause and most importantly the memory of such a
special lady like Jane Tomlinson will motivate everyone to want to
take part. Whether you're a veteran to road races or a first timer,
I look forward to seeing you all there in July. Please give your
full support to the event."
Jane Tomlinson's husband Mike added; "In creating 'Run For All',
Jane wanted others to share the excitement and fulfilment she had
experienced in participating in fundraising events. Now 5,000
people have the chance to share that experience in Pennine
Lancashire and hopefully raise thousands of pounds for local
charity."
