Mossley man saddles up to raise Christie funds
Press Release Posted 17 May 2012
A man from Mossley will be taking part in the North West's
biggest bike ride this weekend to help boost funds into cancer
research.
Ken Hulmes, 47, signed up for the 60 mile Manchester to
Blackpool challenge on Sunday 4th July in aid of The Christie after
seeing family members battle the disease.
Ken's brother Terry was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus
in January 2009 but sadly died eight months later aged just
56. Ken also lost his sister-in-law Phyllis Hargreaves to the
disease two years ago.
The driving assistant said; "It's just awful how many families
are affected by this horrible disease and I still miss Terry and
Phyllis greatly.
"That's why I signed up to this bike ride. It's so
important for us to all do our bit and raise money that will help
experts at The Christie work towards beating cancer."
Starting from the iconic home of Manchester United at Old
Trafford, the ride takes participants along country lanes to the
finish at Blackpool's Mirror Ball on the South Promenade, where
they get to enjoy a barbecue and live music.
Ken added; "I'd appreciate it if anyone could help me and my
brother-in-law Bill, who's doing this bike ride with me, reach our
fundraising targets by visiting www.justgiving.com/kenneth-hulmes."
Sporting events officer at the Christie charity, Marco Giannini,
said; "Huge thanks to Ken and Bill for taking part in this bike
ride for us. The money they raise will make a huge difference
and I'll be cheering them on on Sunday."
