Spotlight on cancer research in Manchester

Wednesday 21st February 2pm-3.30pm

Join us at the next Spotlight event to hear from Professor Robert Bristow, the latest of our world-leading cancer experts recruited with support from The Christie charity.

Professor Bristow has joined The Christie from The University of Toronto and is renowned as an expert in prostate cancer. He is the director of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre as well as the Chief Academic Officer and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Oncology at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Professor Bristow’s research interests include novel clinical trials that intensify cancer therapy to prostate cancer patients whose tumours harbour aggressive genetic changes.

He said “Manchester is a place to do great things. It has a proven commitment to cancer research, as well as a top-tier, cancer-specific hospital in The Christie that treats more patients than any other centre in the UK or Europe. Importantly, Manchester is renowned for its ‘Team Science’ approach and has extensive infrastructure support with access to state-of-the-art technologies and expertise.”

As part of The Christie’s overall strategy to strengthen its research capacity, a number of other key appointments have been supported by charity funding in areas including experimental cancer therapeutics, radiotherapy related research and proton beam therapy research. Professor Bristow will provide leadership across all areas of research and this is an exclusive chance to hear about his plans.

Spotlight events are a chance to celebrate the impact that you, our supporters, have on patients every day. They are free to attend and open to anyone who would like to hear more about our work.

The event will take place in the auditorium at the Education Centre (department 17), The Christie, Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 4BX. Registration will be available 30 minutes prior to the event.
