Spotlight on enhanced supportive care

Wednesday 12th September 2pm-3.30pm

Our next Spotlight event will be a follow up to a popular event held last year which focussed on enhanced supportive care (ESC). ESC is a national initiative, pioneered at The Christie.

Our new ESC clinics provide rapid access to specialists in cancer symptom control and acute oncology. The aim is to keep people well as they go through their cancer treatment, avoiding the need to attend local A&E departments for hospital admissions.

This is an exclusive chance to hear an update on progress and developments locally and nationally over the last 12 months from Dr Richard Berman, consultant in supportive care at The Christie and NHS England’s national clinical lead for ESC.

The Christie’s ESC team is supporting our patients through their cancer treatment by earlier involvement of supportive care and working much more closely with our oncology colleagues. This approach focuses on minimising the side effects of treatments and providing up to date pain and symptom management, while also helping patients through chemotherapy treatments.

The Christie ESC programme supports patients at any stage of illness, including those with advanced cancer, those who are living with cancer as a long term illness and cancer survivors.

Spotlight events are a chance to celebrate the impact that you, our supporters, have on patients every day. They are free to attend and open to anyone who would like to hear more about our work.

The event will take place in the auditorium at the Education Centre (department 17), The Christie, Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 4BX. Registration will be available 30 minutes prior to the event.
