Sarah Darlington, daughter and wife

"When I was 7 my father was treated at Christie's. I'm 32 now and he's still with us and leading an active life. Then, when a teenage friend who later became my husband, developed Hodgkinsons Disease, Christie's gave him help and hope. So you could say they gave me back the two most important men in my life. You can't put a price on what they gave me - but i've left them something in my Will."

Maureen Reid, ex-patient

"Eight years ago I discovered a lump in my right breast. I know in my heart that i'm only alive today because of The Christie and my own quick action. A future with my family and friends is their legacy to me. My legacy to them is to leave a little something in my will, to help them ensure a future for others".

Lady Margaret Holt, supporter

The Holt family, founders of Manchester brewers Joseph Holt Ltd, became generous benefactors of the Hospital in the early years of the 20th century. In 1914 Sir Edward Holt senior helped raise funds to purchase radium for the Manchester and District Radium Institute, eventually named the Holt Radium Institute in his honour. The family tradition was continued by his son, Sir Edward Holt junior, whose wife, Lady Margaret Holt, chaired Christie's Women's Auxiliary Committee, later the Women's Trust Fund, from 1939-1977 and remained as its President until 1988. When she died in 1997 she bequeathed her estate to The Christie, a legacy of over £8 million.

Pat has lived in Cornwall for the greater part of her life, but is leaving a legacy to our charity as her mother was treated here for cervical cancer in 1958. Then Pat was 14 years old and her mother was aged 48. The close family of dad james, mother Mary and Pat were living in Accrington, Lancashire at the time.

Pat said; "I have never forgotten The Christie even though I moved to Cornwall permanently in 1975 and my mother followed in 1978 after the death of my father.

"The family never forgot The Christie. My legacy represents our family's gratitude for giving Mary an extra 43 years. I know that she and father would have approved whole heartedly of my gift - in the hope that it will help others as it did mary. We owed a great deal to The Christie."

Mary Catherine Jones survived and lived into her 92nd year and the cancer never returned.
