Something Amazing

The Christie is cherished and loved by the people it serves.

These days, most people in the North West know someone who has benefited from the care here at The Christie. Thanks to the excellent treatment and research facilities at the hospital, more and more people are now surviving the disease and are able to spend more time with the people they love.

Right from the start, our success has been built on legacies.

Back in 1892, half of the £10,000 needed to set up the first Cancer Home in Manchester came from the estate of Mr Daniel Proctor. The building itself was built on land gifted by the Whitworth estate. Since then literally thousands of our supporters have left a gift in their will to The Christie and become part of something amazing!

Supporters from each and every walk of life

The progress we make now and in the future is only possible thanks to the money that has been left to us in the past and the donations we continue to receive. Supporters from each and every walk of life but with one common aim: to support The Christie and fight against cancer. In our last financial year, we received well over a third of our income, £5.8 million, in legacies - gifts, large and small, left in wills by kind hearted, generous and far sighted men and women of the community.

The Christie has made real progress in recent years

Cancer patients in the local community are now among the first in the world to access the latest, most innovative treatments and the very best patient care. Legacies help us to fund more research, specialist equipment, long-term projects and all the extras that give The Christie its very special atmosphere.

£1,500 pays for a special, comfortable chemotherapy treatment chair, while £500,000 would pay for a laboratory in our planned new Patient Treatment Centre.

The Christie delivers 80,000 treatments every year in one of the World's largest radiotherapy departments and undertakes over 300 clinical trials each year.
