Research
Manchester is now ranked as the best city in the
UK for cancer research, giving local patients access to the newest
treatments and the best possible chance of survival. 90% of our
research has been ranked as internationally excellent.
The Christie is the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind
in Europe and an international leader in research and development,
with world firsts in cancer research since 1901. We are also
partners in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) and
Manchester Academic Health Science Centre. This brings together the
expertise, ambition and resources of organisations that already
have formidable individual reputations in cancer treatment and
clinical research.
We have a number of scientific groups at The Christie who run
clincial trials to research new treatments for cancer patients,
these include:
- Breast cancer
- Gastro intestinal (e.g. bowel cancer)
- Genitourinary (e.g. prostate, bladder, renal, testicular and
penile cancers)
- Ovarian cancer
- Melanoma
- Lung cancer
- Sarcoma
Research at The Christie also focuses on the following
themes:
- Prevention and diagnosis
- Late effects of treatment on cancer survivors
- Radiotherapy developments
- Early development of novel cancer therapies
- Innovative treatments
- Teenage and young adults
Help us reach our target
The Christie is able to attract world leaders in cancer research
because of our outstanding history of world firsts and excellent
facilities. We don't have a specific fundraising target for cancer
research, but every penny donated to our research projects will
bring us all closer to a future without cancer. You can either make
a donation towards a
specific research group or help to increase our research capacity
by supporting our
new patient treatment centre. Thank
you!
