Projects Which Support Patients
At The Christie, we offer a range of services for
patients to help alleviate symptoms such as pain, emotional stress
and anxiety. These services, many of which are funded through our
charity are offered free of charge to support patients and help
them feel better.
Sometimes, it's the little things we do that mean a lot to our
patients. Acupuncture and aromatherapy can alleviate side-effects
from cancer treatment, such as nausea, and help patients relax
before they have their treatment.
We also offer counselling and psychotherapy to help patients
cope with anxiety and depression.
Often people are so shocked when they hear a cancer diagnosis
that they can't take in all the information they are provided with.
Our drop-in cancer information service ensures that patients and
their families have the chance to get the right information, advice
and support. Staffed by two trained cancer information nurses, and
paid for by our charity, this service helps over 6,000 people a
year.
- Complementary therapy (massage, aromatherapy, acupuncture and
relaxation techniques)
- Headstart (wigs and head wear for patients experiencing hair
loss due to treatment)
- Information Centre (patient support)
- Patient welfare support (for patients and their families
experiencing financial difficulties as a result of their illness
and treatment)
