ENETS centre of excellence

The European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS) set up a process of accreditation for Centres of Excellence.

It aimed to define specialist centres across Europe that were able to treat patients with neuroendocrine tumours. We were awarded Centre of Excellence status in March 2011. This was renewed in 2014.

In order to be accredited, centres had to:

  • see a high number of patients
  • have an established, regular multidisciplinary team meeting
  • be involved in research and clinical trials
  • be able to offer a broad range of treatments
  • be able to monitor the results of treatments
  • agree to follow treatment guidelines
  • actively involve patients in their activities (such as the NET Patient Foundation Support Group Day)
  • seek feedback from patients

Setting up a network of Centres of Excellence allows them to work with each other in collaboration, for example in the development of new treatments (through clinical trials) and in sharing best practice.

The Christie NET service is also represented on the ENETS Advisory Board by Professor Valle.
