Library Resources

Please renew your books promptly. You can renew books in person or over the phone on extension 3452 or 3453. If renewing over the phone please give you full name and the copy number of the books. Items reserved by another reader can not be renewed.

Please return your books promptly. The library does not fine if items are late (except for British Library books). However late returns inconvenience everyone and can cost the library money in terms of inter-library loans and the sending of overdue notices.

If you wish to reserve an item that is out on loan please inform a member of the library staff. Notification will be sent to you when the item arrives back in the library but will only be held for 7 days.

Please ask at the library counter if you need help finding a book. The library catalogue can be accessed through the WinCHILL system. Alternatively if you are onsite you can search for books in the library by using the link to the catalogue on the library intranet pages. For instructions go to help with library catalogue

TheGreater Manchester Health Libraries Partnershipaims to helpNHSstaff access resources in convenient locations. As part of the GMHelp programme there is a reciprocal arrangement where Greater ManchesterNHSstaff can join other Greater Manchester health libraries to use some of the resources they offer. Through this you can be a member of more than one library on production of the appropriate identification. For example, for Christie staff this means that you could also join the health library at StockportNHSTrust as well as Kostoris Library and vice versa for Stockport staff.

We can advise you on the contact details for other libraries if you wish to use a Greater Manchester library in a convenient location. You can then contact the librarian in the library you wish to join to find out the services on offer.

North West Health Libraries Joint Catalogue - This catalogue details the book holdings of many of the North West health libraries. As a member of the partnership you can locate books in the North West health libraries by searching in the Catalogue. This shows where the book may be located, however it does not mean that it is currently available for loan.

For Christie staff and library members: The North West catalogue can also be used to locate a book in Kostoris Library. You will then have to come into the library or contact us to check availability and loan the book. If there is a book you wish to borrow from another North West library, contact us and we will advise you on how to request it through our Inter Library Loans service.

Members of libraries not from Greater Manchester: You cannot approach us directly. If there is a book which may be available in Kostoris Library you need to contact your own trust librarian who will then request the book for you.

Many of our journals are available online. To view the list for those available either on the NHSnetwork or the academic network follow the link to Electronic Journals.

For many E Journals offsite access is available when you register for a The Christie Athens Username. For more information go to ATHENS Accounts.

The library has a wide variety of computer facilities. These include general access to PC's, laser printers, internet access, library catalogue and variousCD-ROM's.

Although the library provides access to all the above programs we do not support non library applications. Manuals for these programs are available in the library if required.
