Databases

To access many of the databases you will need to obtain a personal Athens username and password specific to either NHS staff or Manchester University staff or students

Selecting a database

To collect information on a particular topic you will need to use a database that covers that topic. Most databases are subject specific and a particular database may not cover everything that has been published in the entire body of biomedical literature.

The information below (found through using the info link in the table above) is a guide to the type of information each of the databases covers. More comprehensive information is available when you access the individual database suppliers.

Depending on the purpose of your search, it is advisable to search more than one database to collect a comprehensive set of references.

The library staff are happy to give advice and also offer training in the use of these resources.
