Our Performance
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust has an
international reputation for cancer research. We have a large
number of experienced investigators with a wealth of knowledge
across common and rare cancer disease areas. The Christie is the
cancer centre for the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer
Research Network which serves a population of 3.2 million
people.
Our research programme currently supports over 500 publications
every year.
In 2009, approximately 2,000 patients registered onto clinical
trials, and the research and development division approved over 100
new studies.
In addition to medical staff, the trust supports over 100
research staff, including 60 research nurses and 10 clinical trial
administrators. Last year, we provided GCP training for over 300
research professionals.
Some recent recent developments include:
- Establishment of The Christie trials coordination unit
- A dedicated clinical trials inpatient unit
- New early phase clinical trials facilities are now available in
the new Oak Road treatment centre, making The Christie one of the
largest trials units of its type in the world.
- The Endocrinology unit now has dedicated research
facilities.
