The partnership provided the first hospital pharmacy of its kind, offering both outpatient and inpatient dispensing services.
From December 2012, Boots assumed responsibility for managing dispensing services. The Christie pharmacy staff continue to be responsible for the clinical pharmacy service (screening of prescriptions and service at ward level), and continue to provide the service to patients attending the Oak Road Pharmacy.
As one of Europe's leading cancer centres our patients will benefit from reduced pharmacy waiting times, allowing the current Trust pharmacy team to work more closely with patients in the clinics and wards, and through supporting clinical trials. The partnership will also help to facilitate reduced hospital visits since patients will be able to have medication delivered to their home or collect from a local Boots UK pharmacy. The new Christie NHS Foundation Trust's Boots UK hospital pharmacy opened in March 2013.
