Christie encourages patients to have their say on NHS England consultation

Press Release Posted 09 March 2015

The Christie wants its patients, fundraisers, volunteers, members and staff to take part in an NHS England consultation on rationalising specialised services.

NHS England directly commissions around 145 specialised services. In order to ensure the maximum number of patients benefit from new innovative treatments coming on stream, choices need to be made about which of these to fund.

This means that they have to make difficult decisions about how to prioritise resources.

Through their full public consultation, NHSE is seeking to ensure that their decisions on investing in specialised services are well informed, evidence-led and in line with the expectations of patients and the public.

The consultation is open to everyone and closes on 27th April 2015. Full consultation details are available on NHSE website - https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/consultation/investing-in-specialised-commissioning

Four national workshops have been arranged to explain in more detail the issues that this policy aims to address. The workshops are aimed at people with an interest in specialised services, including patients, carers, clinicians and commissioners.

The workshops take place on:

17th March (London)

18th March (Bristol)

23rd March (Midlands)

25th March (Leeds)

Alternatively feedback can be given by completing the online form - https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/consultation/investing-in-specialised-commissioning/consultation/intro/view

All respondents will be asked to declare the capacity in which they respond. The Christie will be submitting an organisational response and encourages any interested parties to have their say on this important issue.
