Existing referral process
Your surgeon, paediatric or adult oncologist needs
to refer you or your child to an appropriately specialised clinical
oncologist to assess whether proton beam therapy would benefit.
If it would, a referral is made to the National Proton Clinical
Reference Panel, a panel of experts from across the country that
includes Christie representation. This reviews the clinical details
and gives approval for NHS funding support. Your clinical
oncologist should be able to explain the referral process and
timescales.
Referral guidelines and further information can also be found on
the NHS Specialised Services website.
