Employee of the month - Terms and conditions

Nominations

  • Nomination may be from staff, patients, carers, volunteers, the public and partner organisations
  • All employees and volunteers of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust will be eligible for the scheme
  • The nomination period would be the first day of the month until the last day of the calendar month

Nominations can be made online or via nomination postcards/postboxes which will be situated at the main reception areas, on wards and in the dining room.

The nomination will ask for no more than 200 words to explain how the individual has excelled in their work and demonstrated commitment to The Christie values.

At the end of each month the nomination forms will be collected by the marketing team who will collate all of the entries. The marketing team will provide a summary of eligible nominations to the panel who will be asked to vote and award the individual who it is felt is most deserving.

Any employee who is undergoing any disciplinary action or is on a final stage of the managing attendance policy will not be eligible to receive an award.

Once an individual has won an award they will not be eligible again for another 12 months.

The Panel

The panel will consist of the Associate Director of Human Resources or designated deputy in their absence, Brian McGee the staff governor or nominated deputy in their absence, the Non Executive Director, Equality & Diversity lead or designated deputy in their absence.

Due to diary pressures the panel may on occasions be conducted via teleconferencing facilities. Nominations will be sent to each panelist who will then each shortlist three possible winners. The shortlist will then be considered and the Employee of the Month agreed.

NB If it is a tied vote the final decision will be made by the non Executive Director, the chair of the panel.

The criteria that the panel will be using to consider the nominations will be as follows:

  • Examples of an activity that has led to the nomination e.g. demonstration of outstanding work on a particular project or in the day to day role
  • Demonstrated the Trusts values
  • Responsible attitude towards work for example use of initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm
  • Provided a significant and positive impact on the Trust or community. Such accomplishments must be identified.
  • Produced results in the form of increased care quality, productivity, increased revenues, reduced costs and/or improved processes/operations.
  • Special rapport with other employees and/or patients

Making the award

The successful employee with the most votes will be presented with a £50 voucher and certificate by the Chief Executive and a photograph taken for the Trust website and Chinwag magazine. The employee's manager will be told in advance about the award, so that a surprise presentation can be made to the member of staff.

The winner will be announced at the subsequent team brief and in the Chief Executive's podcast.

Employee of the year

At the end of each year running from November to October the panel will consider the twelve Employees of the Month and decide upon/propose an Employee of the Year. The winner of the Employee of the Year would be announced at the staff awards.
