Procurement
The Trust requires that sustainability and
environmental issues are considered in the procurement of all
relevant goods and services. The Procurement Department will assist
all staff to comply with this by:
- Raising environmental awareness amongst Trust Purchasers
- Ensuring relevant environmental issues are considered as part
of the purchasing process
- Supporting and encouraging suppliers to be compliant with any
current and future environmental legislation
- Encouraging the use of suppliers who aim to adhere to 'greener'
policies
- Supporting and encouraging local suppliers to compete for
requirements
- Procuring from a mix of small, medium and large businesses and
social enterprises
- Conducting 'Whole Life Costing' exercises where appropriate,
taking into account factors affecting the environment
- Considering lease options where appropriate as an alternative
to 'purchase' in order to reduce waste
- Specifying carbon and energy saving, environmentally friendly
alternatives as desirable options
- Encouraging the purchase of recycled goods, or goods with
recycled content
- Minimising and regulating the amount of waste generated from
Trust purchases by encouraging suppliers to return and re-use
packaging
- Promoting and making full use of services offered by suppliers
who will collect and recycle previously supplied or used items
- Reducing the number of delivery vehicles entering and leaving
site, by encouraging the use of contracted suppliers and scheduled
deliveries
